Microsoft Live OneCare -- A New Product We Like
|
I got tired of fighting with Norton's security and tuning software for control of my computer.
When Norton wanted its annual subscription money, I decided to try out Microsoft's anti-virus/security/tuning program, OneCare.
I like it!

| Can a Hotel Employee Steal Your Identify from Room Key Info? |
We received a warning from a friend who knew we often travel: Hotel room key cards are routinely encoded with personal information which identify thieves can steal.
Wrong!
The story of the ID-theft-prone hotel room key is just one of many urban legends circulating around the Internet. We get panicked messages about one rumor or another at least once a month -- and the worst part is that some of the warnings are true.
A great resource for discovering if a rumor is true is SNOPES.COM. Run by two private individuals, urban legends are categorized, investigated, and exposed (or verified)!
Check out Snopes before you fall for the latest fake alert ... or dismiss a legitimate warning.

Notes on FrontPage's Successor "Expression Web"
|
In the 1990's Microsoft opened up web page creation to average computer uses with its FrontPage products. FrontPage let non-professionals publish reasonable looking websites without having to deal with HTML and technical issues.
I used FrontPage in many sites because it empowered people to update their pages on their own.
Microsoft has discontinued FrontPage. Unfortunately, its successor "Expression Web" is less novice-friendly and more expensive.

| Klingelhorn for all Your French Horn Needs |
The next time you find yourself needing a professional French Horn player (Hey! It could happen!), talk to Bill Klingelhoffer.
Bill's new Ozdachs site is a simple electronic calling card that tells about a successful professional musician. It was fun to create, too!

Microsoft Office 2007 -- How to Make Yourself Need Faster Hardware
|
Microsoft's latest version of its flagship Office suite includes the familar Word (for word processing), Excel (for spreadsheet manipulation), Outlook (for email), PowerPoint (for presentations), and Publisher (for business documents).
However, I don't think that there are any WOW! features or functionality in Office 2007 that make you need to upgrade. And, this version of Office runs a lot slower!
