So You Think You Need an Electronic Newsletter?
Thinking of starting an electronic newsletter? Electronic newsletters (like this one) have become so common that there are even radio ads for different services trying to get you sign up to send out one of your own.

Newsletters are a great idea, but producing one is a chunk of work that has to be done regularly.

Before you take the plunge, make sure that you're ready for the adventure.

Professional Resume Writer Launches a Mini-Site
Resume Service The Resume Shop owner, Jerome Imhoff Who doesn't want to update and polish their resume to take advantage of the [promised] economic recovery?

The Resume Shop Ink will get your credentials noticed by your next employer.

Jerome, the business' owner, has worked in staffing services for over 10 years.  He's gone through 1,000's of resumes and knows what stands out to hiring managers.

Ozdachs was delighted to design and publish a mini-site for The Resume Shop Ink.  Jerome uses the home page for a landing page for his on-line ads, and the two-page site does a great job of showing all of the services he offers job seekers.

Avoid the #1 Mistake Other Newsletter Writers Make
Newsletters tell all about the company Want to improve customer involvement with your electronic newsletter?

You will get more attention for your message by simply avoiding the Number 1 common mistake made by other newsletter authors.

The error?  They make their business the focus of the newsletter.

Get Rich at Home by Using Google
Google Work from Home Scam God bless the Internet.

You no longer have to stuff envelopes to get rich at home.  Instead, you can get a kit that makes you millions by working with Google.

Or, at least that's what today's frausters are trying to get you to believe.

Why I have to Have Firefox
Snopes page full of ads Snopes using Firefox and AdblockDid you click through to the story on the Google scheme in the article above?

The destination is one of my favorite resources sites, Snopes.com.  Unfortunately, the site looks like it's funded by ads. It's crammed with them!

At the left is a shot of the Snopes page using a normal browser. Ads are on top, on the right, and in the middle.

But, I don't see the ads and flashing annoyances when I browse to Snopes using the Firefox web browser and free ad-blocking add-ons.  The screen on the right is ad- and Flash-free.

If you haven't switched to the free Firefox browser, try out the difference today. It's simple!
  1. Download Firefox and install it on your computer.
  2. Go to the Firefox add-on page and get yourself:
    1. Adblock Plus
    2. Flashblock .
Restart Firefox and go back to the Snopes pages.

Wow!  What a difference!
Postcards from the Edge
Postcard sites can fall apartHow can a picture-postcard website cause you a problem?  Unfortunately, if they were designed to be a specific size on a screen, the beautiful layouts can fall apart if they're filled with too much information.

This month I've worked on two sites that were beautifully designed by professional graphic artists.  They looked great.

Yet, the pages could not expand or change to accommodate the information the site owners wanted to have on the pages. If the owner wanted more text, the pretty postcard-shape boxes would pull apart -- see the example at the bottom of the right where the top border is pulling apart.

There is a happy ending.  I've worked on the sites, honoring the great original looks, but allowing more text, graphics, and information to be placed on each page.  The pages now expand and are flexible.
